Land of the Living? Soon, I hope.

Well, dear readers it is once again time for on of those lame blog apologies. Despite my best intentions I have been unable to blog nearly a week. Travel kept me from my computer at the start of the week and then a nasty cold has kept me couch ridden for the last few days. When you are struggling to breathe and swallow, somehow blogging just takes a back seat. I hope to finally conquer this troublesome bug and return to writing next week.

I now have a backlog of books to review. Here is a taste of what I hope to get to should my health return:

I have been reading in what you might call the realm of the fantastic lately. I finally managed to read Neil Gaiman’s American Gods. I did that as a prelude to reading his newest release Anansi Boys.

In a similar vein, in my travels I managed to pick up and read Jonathan Carroll’s latest work Glass Soup a follow up to White Apples.

All of these works contain a good dose of the fantastical and neither author lacks for imagination or creativity. The question with these works is often “did they pull it off;” did they use the fantastical in an effective and moving way? That is some of what I hope to explore next week.

I work in communications and public affairs. I try to squeeze in as much reading as I can while still spending time with my wife and two kids (and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers and Michigan Wolverines during football season).
