Rice on the Lord of Lords

Buzz Girl believes a new book by Anne Rice will cause a stir. She says, Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt by Anne Rice is “a very Catholic novel, one she’s been contemplating for 10 years, from the queen of vampire and witch kitsch. It’s based on the gospels and tells the story of Jesus’s early life.” CNN calls it likely to be the “most controversial” book issued this fall.

Naturally, I could snark at this point, but why? I know I wouldn’t go to Ms. Rice for sound theology, but I haven’t read the book either. Maybe it relies on a gnostic tradition, spinning Jesus into a wise man who was not the Son of God or the Redeemer of our sins. We can talk about that, if you like.

  1. Like most authors, Anne’s early books were great stuff. She is still a really good writer when the allure of a fat pay check and vapid fan adoration is not her premier rationale. I have always loved her descriptive skills, her ability to brushstroke a vivid mental picture whenever I read her novels. I will snap this one up in a heartbeat!
