Great First lines (of a chapter)

I really love this opening to a chapter in The Annunciation of Francesca Dunn:

The World was waiting for snow just as it was waiting for salvation. Trees stood naked and ready. Gardens were frozen black.

P.s. I received a free advanced copy of this book via Harper Collins’ First Look Program, what fun!
