Frog: A Photographic Portrait by Thomas Marent

Every so often I like to bring to your attention the amazing books put out by DK Publishing.

Now, I realize that “coffee table” type books are not for everyone, but if you are a visual person (like my artist wife) or have school age kids in the house (or just love to learn new things) then I think these type of books are both entertaining and valuable.

The latest work to come my way, Frog: A Photographic Portrait by Thomas Marent, is no exception.  Certainly, anyone who enjoys nature photography will want to check this book out.  Just like with Butterfly, the pictures are just amazing.

Here is how the publisher describes this latest Marent work:

Frog is a celebration of the fascinating range of the planet’s frogs and toads. Published to coincide with Amphibian Ark’s “Year of the Frog” and designed to build awareness of environmental change causing many species of amphibians to disappear at an alarming rate. The aim of the year’s campaign is to generate awareness to the greatest species conservation challenge in history.

The book is arranged thematically into four sections that explore and illustrate each aspect of a frong’s form and function: identity, body form, survival, and reproduction.  Sprinkled throughout are personal stories from Marent about how he works in the rainforest as well as background information on some of the more arresting photos.

With over 400 photographs and over 200 different species Frog really is a visual tour du force on the life and habit of this amazing creature.
