New Author, New Blog

So you’re a new author and your publisher is introducing you to a bookstore owner when an interested reader materializes beside you to ask excitedly about your book, which won’t be available for several days. What do you say?

“Great Scot, woman! Don’t you have enough to read?”

Ok, I’ll give you a second guess, or you can read what James Sheehan really said when in this situation in a Long Island bookstore.

Earlier while in California, similar introductions produced wonderful results. “In L.A., Doug, the owner of Dutton’s came out to meet me personally and told me that when I’m in L.A. to consider this my home base. . . . In Menlo Park, at Kepler’s Books, Joe showed me where my book would be on the shelf and told me what a great spot it was because of the authors that surrounded me.”

His book, The Mayor of Lexington Avenue, is a legal thriller. Sheehan, a New Yorker, has been a lawyer for twenty-eight years.
